Images inspired by Dr Ben Greenman's Lecture

Supplemental Selected Entry:

This is an unusual entry, but Dr Greenman discussed Kant to a great extent in his lecture. He referenced aesthetic theory and its relevance in art. To use Kant, I'd say that question can often depend on taste. The following are selections of art that I have come across that represent
things that I think are beautiful, or nearly so, in contemporary art (that is, art in the last 6 years). This is not a complete list, artists are only referenced if I have not used them already. This my seem arbitrary, but I assure you that this entry has required hours of research, and the ability to open my mind to new ideas that are not always so reliant on the can
on. I have never hated contemporary art... but I can say I've never loved it more than I do now.

Artists: Aurora Robertson, Ben Schuman, Chuck Wang Yong, Dale Chihuly, Marefumi Komura, Mitsuko Nagone, Paul Wright, Urs Fischer, Vincent Mauger.

Supplemental Selected Entry:

I wanted to talk about Binh Dahn's work. Through photosynthesis, Dahn is able to transfer images from a photo to a living plant. His work suggests the same concept as Nicky's; art as an archive. My favorite piece is the image where he has transferred a
rmy camouflage patterns onto a leaf. Is asks the question; what is trying to imitate what?

Images Inspired by Dr. David Sweeny's Lecture

Supplemental Selected Entry: Mauro Peruccetti

I wasn't sure how to approach his work, but there is something about an artist turning unsavory things into pretty things... Perhaps its the last throes of a Bourgeoisie class to make something beautiful when everything else has been taken from the Proletariat.

Relevant Images Inspired by Graham Lister's Lecture

Supplemental Selected Entry:

I stumbed upon this man's website dedicated to his art and his (very impressive) articles on Science Fiction and its relation to art. He compares Science Fiction movies to their contemporary art counterparts with welcomed success! These are images of his studio work. One represents Star Wars' Death Star and the other comes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Brilliant! Clever! Cheeky! (click on the adjectives to be sent to his site).

Selected Entry 10: JMW Turner vs. Ricard Estes

Supplemental Selected Entry:

These are images from Japanese artist Natsumi Hayashi and Jeffris Elliot. These two artists use humans interacting with their environment to celebrate the everyday.
